What are attributes and how are they used?

Using attributes in your Honestly account is a great way of grouping your employees and later being able to filter for more specific data or to even aim surveys and/or questions at particular groups

Admins of the Honestly account have access to the Employees section. Within this section, they are able to create attributes in the Attribute management part of this section:

Here you can click on Add attribute and create groups for your employee data such as "Department" or "Location" but maybe even "Age Category" (which Honestly can group for you automatically) or "Gender" could interest you.

You can decide when creating each option, but also at a later stage, which roles should be able to see these attributes:

The options you have are as follows:

Once you have created the attribute, you can create the options for this attribute too. For example, the different departments or locations within your company.

Simply type in the name of each option and click on Add option to save them.

Please note:

  • You can edit both the attribute and option names, however, this will overwrite any old data, so if someone was in the "Sales" department in the past, and you rename that to "Sales & Marketing", they will now only be visible there and "Sales" will no longer exist.
  • Merging several attributes into one is not possible.
  • Attributes and their options can be a maximum of 100 characters long.

Some examples of popular attributes are:

Location

Department

Team

Contract

Position

Gender

Age Category (the options can be updated automatically in the account)

Seniority (the options can be updated automatically in the account)

When you have finished, your attributes could look something like this:

On the right side of each option, you have the possibility of editing or deleting the attributes.

Caution:

Once deleted, an attribute can no longer be used as a filter in the dashboard and all its options will be deleted at the same time. For example, not only "Location", but also "London", "Leeds" etc.

These attributes will then appear in the following places:

  1. As filters in the dashboards.
  2. As groups in the "Distribution" section of survey creation, enabling you to send the survey to specific groups only.
  3. As options in the "Branching" part of question creation, meaning that the question is only visible to this group/these groups of employees.
